Binding 13

Chloe Walsh

Boys of Tommen, book 1

Devastating yearn

Its strongest scenes let Johnny listen and learn instead of treating Shannon as a problem to solve.

📖 Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh Rating 5/5

Shannon Lynch arrives at Tommen College, an Irish secondary school, hoping to escape years of bullying. Instead, she enters another demanding social world and meets Johnny Kavanagh, a gifted rugby player whose confidence hides pressures of his own.

The romance develops through friendship, safety, and gradual trust. Shannon's home life and the abuse surrounding her are central to the story, so this is far heavier than a light sports romance. Johnny's protective instinct is appealing, but the strongest scenes are the ones where he listens, learns, and treats Shannon as a person rather than a problem to solve.

Walsh gives the supporting cast distinct voices and lets the relationship grow over a long page count. Some scenes are highly dramatic and the pacing will feel slow to readers expecting a compact romance. The book also stops before Shannon and Johnny's story is finished, continuing directly in Keeping 13.

This is best suited to readers who want an emotional young adult romance, an Irish rugby setting, found family, and extensive character development. Content includes bullying, domestic abuse, violence, and trauma.
